Alberto Melloni. The Department of Education and Humanities promotes research and educational activities in the areas of education and training in a wide-ranging epistemological framework that is centred on the study of the individual and of society. The Department offers two three-year Bachelor in "Education Sciences" and "Psychological sciences and techniques", a Master's degree programme in "Pedagogy" and a five-year degree course in "Primary teacher education" for future teachers of Kindergarten and Primary School. These courses, as reflected in the relevant teaching ordinances, require continuous experimentation of the relationships that exist across different disciplines. Also, of significant importance is the position of the Department as defined by its relationships through systematic collaborations with various organisations, businesses and educational institutions to experiment and develop best practices aimed at continuing the tradition of excellence that is characteristic of the area of Modena and Reggio Emilia.

In front of it, some comfortable benches in the shape of chairs to allow citizens and visitors a quick glance at the beautiful public park that is located right there. Luciano Pavarotti debuted here, many years ago. And here today a beautiful refreshing fountain find place. How can we forget Prampolini Square, the heart of the historic center. The classical Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta and the Baptistery open the way to the Broletto , characteristic street of arcades that leads to Piazza San Prospero, the small square, opposed to the large Prampolini one: this is the home of the city farmer market , a tradition made of good food and local products. Via Farini offers a good choice of local "swag" and innovative, do not forget the Panizzi Library , home for many exhibitions and initiatives.

In a new cultural project was created in Reggio Emilia which aimed at the integration of teaching and research with a focus on the development of multidisciplinary skills for the study and teaching of issues related to communication, economics and business management. The professors and researchers who took part in the making of this project belong primarily to the Faculty of Humanities and Economics of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia. They were soon joined by new scholars from other Italian universities and, albeit to a more limited extent, the non-academic world. This project took shape and matured against the background of significant institutional change: the Berlinguer reform, enacted in by the Moratti project and, subsequently, in by the Gelmini law. All of these regulatory changes have been aimed at creating an Italian University within the European framework that will perform at the forefront of academic excellence and be able to meet the expectations of students in the 21st century. Moreover one of the main goals is to reinvigorate the University by improving the quality of both teaching and research in order to ensure the continued provision of a foundation of solid skills and a valid professional life for future generations.
