According to the current education program MIUR , the Brera Academy is included in the university sector, in the field of Higher Education in Art and Music and releases first level diploma equivalent alla laurea and 2nd level diploma equivalent to laurea magistrale. The Brera Accademy is one of the oldest schools in Italy, the emblem of history and reference point for many artists who made the art of our country. Ever since , it contributes to the active dialectic between science, humanities and arts. The School of Restoration of the Brera Academy was founded in , with the aim of ensuring a specialized training in the field of restoration and conservation of contemporary art works. Luciano Formica is the Coordinator of School of Restoration at Academy of Fine Art of Brera, and has a consolidated expertise in the restoration of surfaces and generally protected cultural goods, as well as in the development of restoration projects, choices of intervention methodologies, management of the work sites and relationships with Superintends. He has excellent knowledge of executive techniques and materials both in the field of traditional and contemporary art.
The Brera Gallery was officially established in even though the first heterogeneous group of works existed since This first work set and the Accademia di Belle Arti were enriched with an educational purpose, by request of Mary Therese of Austria. Her desire was to create a collection with exemplary works to form students. Later when Milan became the capital of the Italian Kingdom, and by wish of Napoleon, the collection became a museum with the intention to show the most important paintings from all territories that were conquered by French Army. After the suppression of many religious orders, in the early years of the XIX century, paintings from the churches and monasteries of Lombardy were joined to this collection, as were the paintings confiscated from the various regions of the Kingdom of Italy. The Pinacoteca is the first museum in Milan and one of the most outstanding image galleries in the world as it houses some of the most prestigious selections of masterpieces of ancient and modern images, as well as sculptures by important Italian artists of the XX century.
